This condition affects men and women of all ages and races. During generalized seizures, there is activity in both hemispheres of the brain, whereas, during a partial seizure, the activity is restricted to a localized area of the brain. Seizures are divided into two main groups generalized and partial (also called focal). There are several types of seizures, which are categorized based on the type of brain activity involves and the changes in behavior they cause. Prior to understanding types of epilepsy it is important to understand the types of seizures it may cause.
